Anéla Information in English Afdrukken

Anéla stands for Association Néerlandaise de Linguistique Appliquée. It is the Dutch Association for Applied Linguistics. Anéla was founded in 1972.

Anéla:
1. provides a link between different research areas within the field of applied linguistics and tries to stimulate exchange and collaboration with related research fields,
2. promotes education in applied linguistics in bachelor and master study programmes and graduate schools in the Netherlands,
3. encourages exchange and cooperation among junior and senior researchers and with others concerned with applied linguistic research in communication-intensive organisations;
4. promotes the social debate on bi-/multilingualism.

Anéla members work at universities, educational publishing companies, (teacher training) colleges, education advisory services, in teaching, and in many other positions. Many students of Applied Linguistics are also a member of Anéla. We have approximately 400 members.

Anéla activities
1. Twice a year, Anéla publishes the journal Toegepaste Taalwetenschap in Artikelen (Applied Linguistics in Articles), with predominantly Dutch contributions about applied linguistic research.Anéla keeps a website with up-to-date information about the association and about the (international) development in the field of Applied Linguistics.
2. Every year, the association organizes a junior conference day for prospective researchers and Master students, a springtime conference day on a current topic, and a two- or three-day conference, where members and non-members can present their research.
3. Every year, the association presents the Anéla Thesis Award to the person with the best (Master) thesis in the field of Applied Linguistics in the previous school year.
4. In cooperation with the Dutch Association of Linguistics (AVT) and the Netherlands National Graduate School of Linguistics (LOT), Anéla organizes the annual Language Gala. Part of this festive occasion is the presentation of the Dissertation Award for the best PhD dissertation in linguistics.
5. Anéla offers applied linguists the opportunity to make use of its facilities for mutual exchange and the formation of networks (such as the Anéla study group discourse analysis (AWIA) and the network second language acquisition research (NOTT)). Click here for more information.
6. Within AILA and NEAL, Anéla takes initiatives to organise international (junior) conferences and bilateral activities with sister associations from neighbouring countries: the Gesellschaft für Angewandte Sprachwissenschaft (GAL) and the Association Belge de Linguistique Appliquée (ABLA). Click here for information about the Anéla Conference in May 2009.
